- I Kings 19:14 (ESV)
Serving the Lord is not easy. It is tireless work that, if attempted alone, wears one down quickly. One of the fastest ways to become discouraged in ministry is to forget that you do not serve God alone. This is Elijah’s problem in the verse above.
But Elijah was not the last servant alive. God encouraged the prophet with these words.
Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.
- I Kings 19:18 (ESV)
As we minister, we must keep in perspective that others serve too. Others experience the highs and lows of serving God just we do. The great thing is that God encourages His servants to come together regularly and encourage one another. As we gather, we find that fellowship with other believers gives us the strength to continue in His service.
