- Genesis 2:18 (NASB)
God is the maker of people and, as such, He knows what is best for all mankind. After the Creator finishes creating the man, He makes an observation. He observes that the man is alone.
How could God say that Adam was alone? Adam experienced perfect communion with God. He had all the create animals around to keep him company (Genesis 2:19, 20). What more could man have needed? The missing component for man was another human. God considered the man’s isolation from another human to be less than the best for man. This was because God designed people to need people.
This need for others is one reason why I believe the church is relevant even to this day. God’s church is the gathering of God’s people. They gather so that they will not be alone. Trying to live for Christ in isolation is not good.
The gathering (church) need not be big (Matthew 18:20). Neither does God place a limit upon the number gathering together (Acts 2:41). The important thing is that God’s people gather together on a regular basis.
Why should we gather together? We gather because God designs humans to need each other. People united together can accomplish more than one who is alone. God tells us to come together so that we may learn to love Him and to love one another better.
It is not good for me to live for Christ alone. As I walk with Christ, I must be mindful of the others who also follow Him.
