- Psalm 2:1-3 (KJV)
The psalmist writes, here, about the world’s hatred for God and His Messiah. Ungodly people rage against the Creator and vainly plot how they can be free from the rules, precepts, and truths of the God of Abraham.
This sure does accurately describe our society today. People proclaim their doubt that God even exists and make it their mission to let everyone know about their doubt. They deny God’s rule and lift up man’s wisdom and morals. Why do the ungodly do this? They do such things because they wish to be free from God.
People rage against God because they do not want God. They prefer their own lusts over the rule of God (II Peter 3:3). God’s holiness stands opposed to man’s own righteousness and God makes unbelievers uncomfortable. Unbelievers are terribly offended by God and they just need Him out of the way. The psalmist writes that the rage of the ungodly is a vain thing (v1).
Getting rid of God is a vain thing. The ungodly will never find satisfaction.
