- Ephesians 4:11-14
Mature Christians are furnished or equipped (v12). They are ready for the work of service or ministry. They are growing as the body of Christ. God’s desire is that His people are equipped until they reach the unity of the faith and full understanding of Jesus Christ (v13). These two could very well be one in the same thing. If Christians attain the full understanding of Jesus Christ, they will be united in the faith. The Church at this stage is the Church of the “complete man”. It is when the Church is filled with everything Christ does for the Church (v13). This maturity is completed when we all go home but the Church is to start maturing now.
The reason why we must begin maturing is so that we can live during this present, broken life in light of God’s truth (v14). God’s will for His people is not to be taken captive to the lies of the enemy but to live as conquerors. We do not conquer outside of God’s truth. I submit that Christians only triumph in this life to the extent that we walk in God’s truth (walk worthily). To the extent we fail to live in His truth, we experience brokenness of our old sin nature and that brokenness of a fallen world.
