For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
- John 6:38 (NKJV)
Before His crucifixion, Jesus prays to the Father. In His prayer, Jesus displays His submissiveness.
41 And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
- Luke 22:41, 42 (NASB)
Jesus’ submission to the Father’s will was complete. He took the punishment for the sins of the world. He neither tried to escape the penalty nor did He strike back at those killing Him. Jesus endured. The whole time Jesus suffered, He entrusted Himself to God (I Peter 2:23). The Master’s example is what His church must follow.
