For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
- Romans 6:14 (ESV)
Christians possess the ability to deny sin because the identity of the Christian soul is that of a soul free from sin. Through Christ, the Christian’s soul is presently saved and no longer under sin’s power. The Christian mind must take inventory of the soul and think accordingly. By this I mean the mind must see the soul’s identity and start thinking as the mind of a redeemed soul.
Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
- Romans 6:11 (NASB)
In other words, our mind must catch up to the soul. God calls our minds to live free as our souls are free. Our freedom is from the rule of death and sin. How does this free mind think? Listen to the Scriptures for the answer.
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
- Colossians 3:1, 2 (NKJV)
The mind free from sin seeks the things of God. It seeks in order to find. In other words the seeking is intentional and purposeful. The free mind also sets itself upon the things of God. A mind set upon heavenly things is a mind which comes into agreement or harmony with the things of God.
As Christians, we have a mind free from sin. We possess a mind that is able to think on things above. But we must purposely exercise our minds to seek godly things. Again, this exercising includes studying the Bible and submitting our minds to think as God thinks.
