…knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.
- II Peter 1:20 (ESV)
The word “interpretation” means “explanation” or “application”. Peter writes that interpreting, explaining, or applying Scripture is a very narrow activity. It is a narrow activity because it only has one meaning – God’s meaning. Therefore, interpreting the Bible comes not from man’s mind or imagination but from God.
Since God is giving the message He wants through the Bible, man must seek to know what God is actually saying through His word. The goal of a Biblical teacher is to discover what God’s word actually says. Only when one knows what God is saying can one obey God’s word.
Galatians 1:12 For I neither received it from man nor was I taught it but it came through revelation of Jesus Christ.
