- I Peter 3:1, 2 (NASB)
I know that this verse offends many in our day. The word “submission” conjures thoughts of weakness and inferiority. But the Bible describes submission in quite different terms. In God’s eyes, submission is influence and influence is power.
In these verses, the influence of a wife is so powerful that it can open the door for her husband to submit to Christ. That is quite a bit power.
Submission is not just for the Christian wife. The Bible commands all Christians to be submissive. Just ponder these other references.
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
- James 4:7 (NKJV)
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
- Romans 13:1 (NIV)
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
- Ephesians 5:21 (NIV)
The Christian life is a life of submission. This includes all Christians, both male and female.
Submission is not easy but it is right. Believers must remember that submission influences people. As such we are conduits of God’s power and glory.
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
- Matthew 5:16 (NASB)
