The Bible states that Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself (Daniel 1:8). Daniel sets a boundary as to how far he was going to be immersed into the Babylonian culture. Obedience to God prevents him from food, the eating of which would either violate Scripture or conscience.
Do you establish boundaries in life? Do you, because of obedience to God’s word, deny self of anything which is sin? If not, begin today. Use the Scriptures to define what you should and should not practice. Always choose obedience to God.
What about things of which God’s word is silent? How do you settle in your heart not to defile yourself? The answer to these questions come from your conscience. Anything you do which violates your conscience, provided the Bible is silent on the issue, is sin. In other words, if you do not feel comfortable with it, set you heart to stay away from it (Romans 1:21-23).
As you journey with the Savior, depend upon His word to guide you. Set boundaries in your heart and mind to remain devoted to the Lord.
