Prayer is my agreement that I am completely dependent upon the resurrected Jesus Christ. Without Him, I am nothing nor can I do anything of value. Therefore prayer is my statement that I must acknowledge Him in all my ways.
Prayer gives me the constant release of cleansing. Through prayer, I confess my sin to my Lord. I do not confess to be re-saved or to stay saved. I confess because sin is no longer a part of who I am. In return, God’s word assures me of cleansing and mercy. My relationship with God is once again clear and I may go and sin no more. Confession encourages me to shun rather than embrace sin.
Prayer aligns my will with God’s will. God wants everybody to be saved so I pray for the lost. God hurts with those who hurt so I pray for the suffering. God loves the world so I pray for my enemies. God desires that Christians grow in their faith so I pray for my brothers and sisters. I do not expect my prayers to change God’s will to my will. I rather pray so that my will submits to His. My heart comes into alignment with God’s heart.
I do not consider myself to be a champion prayer warrior. Many times, I fail to pray without ceasing. But God is changing me through prayer. He is turning my heart towards His.
