– Mark 6:18 (NASB)
God calls His people to uphold and proclaim His truth. This is another way in which the church becomes a blessing to those in government. The church is the salt and light of the world. Salt stings open wounds and light hurts the eyes which are accustomed to darkness. Despite the discomfort, the church must be willing to love government officials by constantly presenting God’s standard.
Does the church have the right to openly speak about the moral failings of those in government? The answer is, “Yes.” But our motive in doing so must be love. God’s church must speak the truth as peacemakers so that all people may know the grace and forgiveness available through Jesus Christ.
The proclamation of God’s standard must never come by force. The church is neither called nor able to make people obey God. We must compel them. We compel by loving our government leaders. We love by praying for God’s blessing to be upon the leadership. Love includes a constant presentation of God’s standard to local, state, and federal government.
