3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
-I Peter 1:3, 4 (NKJV)
What is our inheritance? The Christian’s inheritance is God’s favor and eternal life (Barnes). These things are listed quite nicely in Ephesians 1:3-14. Look at the list from Ephesians.
Believers are chosen by God before the foundation of the world (v4).
Believers are predestined to be sons of God (v5).
Believers have God’s grace bestowed upon them (v6).
Believers have redemption and forgiveness of sins (v7).
Believers can know God’s will (v8).
Believers have an inheritance from God (v9).
Believers are sealed by the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance (v13, 14).
Furthermore, Christians are co-heirs with Jesus. We are destined to share in glory with Him. We are to be glorified and made perfect. We are not destined to be God but are destined to be glorified children of God (Barnes). Believers suffer this world and so did our Savior. But our destination is glory with
Christ (v 17). The praise and glory for our inheritance goes to the God of Abraham (Ephesians 1:12).
