- Ephesians 1:13, 14 (NKJV)
I love the two verses above because they comfort me. Although, these verses are written to the Christians living in Ephesus during the first century, they apply to all believers. What God tells us in these two verses is simply that once He saves someone, that salvation never ends.
To be more emphatic, God states that He gives a guarantee of salvation. That guarantee is His Spirit. God gives the Holy Spirit to His people as earnest so that we know He will finish what He started within us. The Spirit’s presence in the life of the believer is assurance that an inheritance (eternal life) is coming. God does not leave His people guessing about the confirmation of their salvation.
Therefore, Christians are assured salvation because of God’s promise. We can never lose our inheritance. God’s people are safe and protected. This protection also comes as a result of God’s Spirit.
At the point of salvation, the Holy Spirit seals every Christian. He seals from eternal death. He seals us from the evil one. How long are we sealed? Christians are protected until we are safely home.
So then what reason have believers in Jesus to fear? We have no reason to fear. God, the Holy Spirit, is with us, protecting us and promising that we will receive eternal life, that we will make it home safely.
