- Psalm 91:3-8
The people of God have no reason to fear because God’s deliverance is always with them (v5, 6). Whether it be night or day, darkness or midday, we live in God’s deliverance. Amidst a terror, enemy attack, pestilence, or any destruction, God’s people are delivered people.
Believers reside in the state of God’s deliverance and stand apart from destruction (v7, 8). The real terror of man is God’s condemnation but God’s children are forever free of this devastation. Although many fall around us, we shall not be moved. The protection of the Savior by which we are fully delivered allows no harm. When the most dreaded of plagues comes upon humanity, those under God’s wings witness rather than experience the Almighty’s judgment.
One day, the people of God will witness the judgment of those who never took refuge in the Messiah. Just as the Hebrews witnessed the destruction of the Egyptians, God’s people will view God rewarding the ungodly (Exodus 12). Will we take delight in seeing this devastation? We will not take delight. But the scene will solidify our gratitude for the deliverance of our Savior.
