II Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
The Bible is the inspired word of God. The Church proclaims this truth but what does it mean. The inspiration of the Scripture means that the Bible is the very word of God. The verse above from I Timothy explains this idea in terms of “breath”.
To understand the idea of Biblical inspiration, hold your hand up close to your mouth and speak. When you do so, you can feel the breath coming out of your mouth. Those puffs of air belong to you. They are your breath, your inspiration. In like manner, the words of the Bible are the puffs of air proceeding from God’s mouth as He speaks.
The inspiration of Scripture holds great implications for mankind. Inspiration tells us that the Scriptures are the property of God; that He is the source of the Bible. The words we read in Scripture are the very words of God and belong to no one else. Secondly, inspiration tells us that God has, in fact, spoken to mankind. God is not silent and He still speaks to the world today. Many people want to know what God is saying to them. They only need to look into His spoken word which is written down for all people.
