Bill Nye, the Science Guy, believes that earth is old…very old. The former childrens’ show host believes so much that the earth is old that he is willing to hold to his belief even if he is doomed to hell. I do not really care what Mr. Nye believes about the earth’s age. It is what he believes about Jesus Christ that determines where he spends life after death.
Jesus calls people to rest upon His work to go to heaven. This is what it means to believe in Jesus. What is the work of Jesus? The work of Jesus is that He came and lived a perfect life before God, He died a death that paid the penalty for all sin, and He rose from the dead, proving that He truly was God. When someone takes these things about Jesus and then relies upon Him to take away their sins, heaven is their destiny.
Salvation is not about the age of the earth but it is about Jesus Christ. People are not doomed to hell for their belief about creation. They are doomed because they fail to rest upon the work of the Son of God.
Mr. Nye, if you wish to believe that the earth is old, Jesus Christ welcomes you to spend eternity with Him. We do not have to be correct on how the world came to be. We simply need to call upon the One who can forgive sins.
