The Holy Spirit approaches human hearts with the conviction of sin against God. “You have sinned against the one true God”, states the Spirit to the sinner. The heart that listens to the Spirit’s words breaks under the pressure of guilt. Mourning begins to flood the soul.
The mourning is too much for the sinner’s heart. God’s Spirit never fails to release the only cure which brings release. The healing words shower down upon the mournful saying, “The debt of your guilt is paid through Jesus Christ. Go to Him.” The heart that obeys the Spirit trades sin for grace and mourning for comfort.
Do you mourn? Is your sin ever before your eyes, always on your mind? Go be comforted, mourning soul. The Savior waits to take your pain and give you everlasting comfort.
