- Romans 8:26, 27
The Holy Spirit assists believers in their walk here on earth. The third person of the trinity helps specifically in the areas of our weakness (moral frailty). I believe that “weakness” here refers to the Christian’s struggle to live as God’s children in a corrupted world (Johnson, 1974). Like a trusted friend, the very Spirit of God comes to our side to help us as we go through this life.
One of our struggles in this life is in the arena of prayer. Paul writes that we do not know what to pray. It is quite understandable that in this lifetime the believer may not have the words to offer in prayer. Perhaps this is due to fatigue from the struggle or possibly it is because the believer does not know what to ask. Whatever the reason, when the believer cannot find the words, the Holy Spirit speaks in his or her place.
