This failure to connect brings consequences. Believers who do not have at least one other person with whom they may relate on a significant level must settle for isolation. Isolation leads not only to loneliness, but also prevents the individual from experiencing growth in Christ. Christians who try to live the Christian life alone will experience a limit to their maturity in Christ.
The reason why this limited growth occurs is due to the fact that God made people to be around other people. God makes this clear in the book of Genesis. Even before the fall of man, God desires that Adam have a helper, a companion (Genesis 2:18). God builds within the very being of man a need for other people.
Since God made man to need other people, it is good for man to find relationship with other people. By “relationship” I mean deep points of connection between two or more people. When the believer finds such relationship, the possibility for unlimited maturity and growth in Christ may take place.
